Description
A superb and rare photo of the very magnificent and ever so greatJoey Dunlop
on board of the famous Agrati Sales Ltd.
Benelli 750 Sei
six cylinder machine during the
Isle of Man
TT Formula 1 races
of
1978
.
The machine was prepared by Agrati Sales Ltd., the English Benelli importer, who also was Joey’s entrant. Unfortunately Yer Maun was forced to retire in the second lap due to mechanical problems. It is a very historic and nice photo, as
the
Benelli 750 Sei
(= Italian for “
six
“) was the
first ever
six cylinder production motorcycle. The six cylinders each had a bore and stroke of 50 x 50.6mm, delivering a capacity of
747.7cc
. The single overhead camshaft engine delivered a power output of
71 bhp at 8,500 r.p.m.
The first prototype was shown as early as 1972. The photo shows the ever so loved and ever so magnificent Joey Dunlop in action at the
Bungalow
section of the Isle of Man TT circuit in 1978. As per regulations, Joey ’s 750 Benelli six was mostly standard though it does not look like that, as the main modifications were the seat, fueltank and fairing.
Note the exhaust system. In this era the term “spaghetti exhaust system” was widely used in automotive racing and this photograph shows clearly why. What a great sound this machine must have delivered! We also have more photos of other Benelli bikes, and various motorcycle (world) champions on various kinds of machinery. Please check out our auctions and take advantage of our shipping discount! The auction selection is refreshed and changed continuously.
This is your rare chance to own this
non period
photo that reflects a very interesting and historic piece of motorcycle history. Therefore it is printed in a nice large format of ca. 8" x
12”
(ca. 20 x
30 cm
).
