The remarkable
Moto Guzzi 500cc V8
Grand Prix racer was by the famous ing. Giulio Carcano with help of Enrico Cantoni and Umberto Todero. It
was designed and put on the track by the ingenious ing. Giulio Carcano in a record time of only 8 months! In record-form the V8 later broke the
300 km/h
mark (
187.5 mph
). It was and still is considered a masterpiece of (motorcycle) engineering! The Moto Guzzi V8 delivered a massive power output of 72hp at 12,000 rpm!
Dickie (Richard H.) Dale
was born
April 25, 1927
. He was born in the town of
Wyberton
near
Boston
,
Lincolnshire
,
England
. He competed in the inaugural 1949 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. Dale was a victor in the 1951
North West
200. His best seasons were 1955 and 1956 when he finished in second place in the 350cc world championship, both times behind his Moto Guzzi team-mate Bill Lomas. Dale also competed in the 500cc class aboard Moto Guzzi's famous V8 Grand Prix bike. His first Grand Prix was in 1950, the Swiss Grand Prix. His first win followed 4 years later when he won the 500cc Spanish Grand Prix in 1954. His last Grand Prix was the 350cc Nations Grand Prix of 1960, which was held at the Italian circuit of
Monza
.
