On offer here is this rare and very collectable Rotring "Rollkuli" early rollerball pen with piston action refillable ink reservoir.
The actual ball in the tip is a small highly polished ruby
(a bit like jewelled watches)
, making for long and hard wear and unbelievably smooth writing.
There are many opinions about the name "Rollkuli", the most likely is as follows;
"Kuli
" is simply the short form of
"Kugelschreiber"
. Germans are pretty good at combining different words and then shortening them in a weird way.
"Rollkuli"
would then be
"Rollkugelschreiber"
which means
"rolling ball writer"
(literal translation).
Condition Report & Dimensions
This pen is in very good working condition. The olive-green ink chamber is without flaw and the piston refilling mechanism works smoothly. The barrel and caps are smooth with little or no scratches and the gold-filled mounts are in fair to good condition.
