    Description

“Photographic Amusements” by Walter Woodbury – 1896 – Original 1st Ed. [SE] This is the original publication, not one of the reprints. The full title is: Photographic Amusements Including A Description of A Number of Novel Effects Obtainable With the Camera. There is a little confusion about the date. On one page it states copyright 1896 and on the Title page, 1897. Yet it makes no indication of being a 2nd printing. My assumption is the material was copyrighted in 1896 with the first printing in 1897. So you thought Photoshop was a new thing. Back in the 19th Century photographers were “modifying” their images in many ways. Walter Woodbury was the Editor of “The Photographic Times”, and the author of “The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Photography”, “Aristotypes and How to Make Them,” etc. etc. Published by The Scovill & Adams Co. of NY. This was an expensive book for its time, One Dollar. Today, the same relative value would be about . This book has been re-published a number of times, this is an original issue. 114 numbered pages plus more before the numbered pages and many after it with advertising. It shows many interesting things photographers did more than 120 years ago. The last pages contain advertisements for some of the “modern” photographic equipment of the day – fascinating. The condition is fair. I suspect it still looks better than anyone born in 1897. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING. IMPORTANT: My items are sold as described. Photos are part of the description. If your questions are not answered by the description, ask. If you ask a question answered by the description, I’ll ask you to read it. If you hope the item is better than described, wonderful, just don’t expect it. Please ask questions before bidding. I am happy to combine shipping. NOTE: If you are bidding on more than one of my auctions, wait until all have closed and I send you a combined invoice to save you shipping costs. SHIPPING: Shipping in the United States with Tracking is $Calculate. Shipping may reflect a handling charge. International shipments: None until the rest of the world decides to accept mailed packages from the USA. Refund Policy: Items that are not as described will result in a refund of the bid amount upon return of the item in the condition in which it was shipped. This does not apply to finding a small scratch when the description says minor surface wear or similar issues. If a package is damaged in transit, and if it was insured, the buyer must cooperate in filing the insurance claim (not a big deal). The box and packing material must be kept and available for the post office if an item is insured and damaged in transit. If an issue is not addressed in the description (I attempt to provide comprehensive descriptions) or if the bidder doesn’t understand the description and he or she did not ask a question about it, no refund will be made. Note: if the Post Office damages an item and still delivers it, it will refund only the bid amount and not the postage. I will not make up the difference. Please ask questions before bidding.
